Clark, it was great to see your posts on the OT site and, yeah, I never 
wandered too far from Ocean Township  except for working in Newark.

I work as a developer/system administrator for Continuing Education at New 
Jersey Institute of Technology.  While I do use Linux and Python, my 
expertise is in BSD Unix.  My pet project at the school is the Open Source 
Initiative; I wrote and teach the FreeBSD certificate curriculum.

I'd really love to be at the reunion, but it is a bit late for checks to be 
sent in, I think.  The university is closed on Fridays this summer, and I 
just found out this evening that my course may get pushed back 2 weeks.  (The 
curriculum is 18 weeks long so I like to get an early start).  August 9th was 
to be the first day of class, but if it gets pushed back to the 23rd, I'll be 
teaching through Christmas  -- yikes!

If I can get in touch with Toni and still register, I hope to see you on the 
9th!.

I am not sure why you decided to start a mailing list, seeing as how the one
that is in operation has such few posts.
I think after the reunion, for a while anyway, we'll see some action on the
other one, unless this one catches on.

I noticed the complaining about the difficult php interface on the 
www.otclassof1973.com site, but I guess I mostly created it because I can and 
it requires no maintenance.  If it gets a lot of posts, cool.  If it doesn't, 
well it wasn't much effort to put together and it can remain available 
indefinitely.

Now that it's apparent I can go to the reunion, I'm getting psyched.  It was 
hard even thinking about it when I was pretty sure I couldn't go.

I'm really looking forward to it.

Dennis,

Give this elist a try. You can read and post with your regular mail reader
or get digests. I'll bet you can even send attachments. I don't think that
web interface will do it and that may account for such low email volume.
Perhaps the email address collected by the administrator could be sent to
Tim.

You know, I've been looking for that picture of me in the bow tie but haven't
been able to find it in my basement yet. Will an ordinary tie do? ;-) I
guess if I wear a bow tie, you woun't miss me. But then again, people tell me
I look exactly like I did in '73 but with a mustache. I'm not sure I believe
it.

How about either of you guys, do you have any pictures posted?

Ok, Clark, you are busted...

I recognized the Chapman Piloting  book you've got in the background of the 
jpeg. That book is like in it's 63rd edition.  I think Charles F. Chapman was 
a rower on the Argo.

This picture could have been from 1974, or 1944, or a few years before 
Agamemnon and his boyz sacked Troy!  Nice try, though ;-)

So, you're the guy they have the APB out on.

You are quite correct in your observations of the picture, that is a
Chapman and it IS an early copy.  Now, how would you know about that
Chapman chap, let alone the vintage of the copy, unless you are a sailor,
or such, as well?

Ahh, but, Mr. Monk, the picture was actually taken in Liberty Harbor on July
4th, 2003 as we were beginning our vacation. The camera was a 25 year
gift from AT&T to my wife who is a district manager there. That was the
second picture the camera ever took and my son was just testing it. (Sorry
to disapoint your detective instints ;-) It was the fastest most recent
thing I could dig up without shooting a new one. Dam, I forgot to wear the
bowtie.

Speaking of looking the same, did you make it to the last reunion. Joyce
Spadoro looked exactly the same as she did in '73. The killer was when
I opened my yearbook and pulled out an Ocean View dated June '73 and
there on the front page was a picture of her. And, get this, she was
wearing the exact same dress in the picture as the one she had on at
the reunion that night. I only wish life were treating her better.

Ok, we're having fun. Where are all the others from the class. Not signing
up or just silently listening like wimps.

Well, these days I'm mostly grounded (time, family work, that kind of stuff), 
but when I do fly, it's usually out of Miller Air Park just south of Toms 
River.  There is a very nice Piper Archer and when I go someplace with my 
wife, we rent it and go.  But for fun, I fly a Citabria.  (the banner-tow 
panes).  Back in 1990 I qualifed to fly the Citabria and was well on my way 
to spending some weekends trolling up and down the shore pulling some 
advertisements behind me.  Unfortunately, my wife and I went to breakfast at 
Allaire airport one sunday morning and she saw how tow-planes pick up 
banners.  She finished her coffee and calmly said, "You are not ever going to 
do that."  So while I am nuptually disqualified from towing banners, I still 
get a chance to sneak out and fly the Citabria from time to time  --it's a 
fun plane to fly.

Speaking of my wife, she saw your picture and said, "He looks exactly the 
same"  I married Kathy Keegan, from OT class of 1974, I don't know if you 
remember her, but she remembered you.

I did magnify the Clark.jpg and I saw the 2002 Northern  Waterway Guide.

There is beautiful breeze blowing off the Manasquan River in Brielle, A/C is 
off, the windows are wide often and there are only small streams of sweat 
dipping off my arms into this laptop's keyboard.

Hey Dennis, where is this place the reuninion is at?  I saw the name and the 
address but I cna't figure out just where on 35 it is.  Do you know if it's a 
new place, or an old one with a different name?  I haven't driven up 35 north 
of Shark river in so long it might look like a foreign country.

Is anyone else having trouble accessing the otclassof1973 web site
this morning. The domain lookup is failing with no servers available.
Ok, who's messing the the domain servers? Yesterday, my server in
Australia failed when a router failed.

Did you get and answer to your question? Michael Leeds asked the 
question on the forum and the answer was that it was a right off of
35 south just before you get to Sunset Ave. It should be not to far up 
that road. (Valley?)

I am responding to Tim Kellers and Clark Woodworth's question about Mr. Post 
and Mr. Coon.  I am posting this to the njit site because I am one of those 
who have had quite a bit of trouble posting to the "official" site.  I know a 
bit about the high school faculty since my kids are also at OTHS (Megan class of 
'01, Liz class of '04, and Laura class of '07).  I have also interviewed OTHS 
seniors for Princeton for about 20 years and they have occasionally filled me 
in on teacher doings.

After their initial retirement, Mr. Post continued to be involved in a kind 
of environmental construction business for a while, but it went bad in the late 
80's and he left for another state and I completely lost track of him.  At 
some point Mr. Coon returned to full time teaching Chemistry at OTHS until about 
1999 or 2000.  After he retired from Ocean I heard that he continued to teach 
Chem at a private or parochial school in the area, but I am not sure whether 
he is still doing that.

Mr. Lefsky just retired in '01.  Mr. Mechura was back teaching at the high 
school in the late 90's and retired in '02, I believe.  There are very few of 
"our" teachers left, but there are a few (Did anyone have Mrs. Sherman, for 
example?).

Pam Sherman, favorite target of Steve Kessel (somebody subscribe him, quick!)

He actually assaulted her ("I twiddled her nose, said Kessel") in 1971 and 
sank into deeper Lefskyish ignominy.

Years later, after firing failed shots at Gerald Ford in San Francisco, Pam 
was quoted as saying. "I blame it all on Steve Kessel."

Wow, what an update. Thanks for the post. I wonder if we could find any
of these former teachers just to hello or thanks. I should think that it
would be a great reward for them to hear how former students are doing.

Yes, I think I had Mrs Sherman for english one year. I'd be fun to drop
by to see her or email her.  Isn't there a day before the kids go back
to school in September but when the teachers are all there. That might
be an opportune time to visit unless they are all in meetings.

All kidding aside (mostly), I think Pam 
Sherman was a history teacher ( I had her), while Mr. Albert Vetrini was 
absent for some reason for a few weeks.

I don't remember a Ms Sherman teaching english, but I'm somehow reminded of 
Ms. (Mrs.?) Sally Sapner teaching 
english our Junior year.  My wife has the Yearbooks deeply buried, somewhere, 
so I don't have anything but a worn-out memory to rely on.

Gee, and I was thinking Vetrini was math but that was Meola. You're
probably correct with Sherman also. Maybe I just had her for home room.

Ok, I'm cheating a bit (especially on the "sleep" thing).  NJIT is closed on 
Fridays all summer througfh August 15th, so I'm not compelled to catch the 
morning train.

I also had to slip in a little reference to Steve Kessel and Pam Sherman 
because : 1.  He was great at torturing her in class and  2. I talk to him a 
lot (he's my daughter's godfather --figure that one out:-), and I'm trying to 
convince him to join in the discussion.

Remember Mark van Lummel?  He married my wife's younger sister and moved to 
Indiana a few years ago.  Mark, Marie (his wife, and his kids are coming in 
for a week's visit later this weekend.  I'll see if I can get him to join the 
discussion, too.

I'm not sure what you mean about cleaning up the posts within the posts, but 
it's an old mailing-list habit of mine to re-quote eveything, I guess that's 
not terribly necessary here.

Speaking of Jock Chung, he called me at work the other day (hunted me down on 
Google, I suspect).  He's been married for 10 years and has a 1 1/2 year old 
son named Brian --that made me glad my diapering days are far behind me .  
He' still lawyering in D.C.  We mostly just chated about "things," but we did 
spend some time remmbering Dave McAffee.  Dave and I spent many a hazy night 
together some 20 years ago, his passing from something so preventable is a 
sad loss indeed.

Ok, shall we limit the message quoting to "most recent" or selection?

Whatever you all want to do; I just set up the list, I don't own it.

Tim is correct: Pam Sherman teaches history.  Ms Sapner is also still in 
residence, though she now goes by the name of Mrs Reese: she taught my daughter 
Liz this past year (Junior year Honors English).  Mrs. Guilford is also still 
teaching.  It's hard for me to rattle them all off because I was not taught by 
many of those who are still teaching and I can't remember clearly all of the 
other teachers who were there then.  All of the teachers I actually had in class 
are gone, except for Pam Sherman.

Apologies: I am replying here to one of Clark's posts to the "official" 
website because the site is "read only" for me from my home computer (it will not 
accept my login although it gives access to read posts, I assume as a guest).  

Clark mentioned that he ran into someone a few years back who spoke to him 
about Mrs. Worth.  It was not clear from the context of Clark's message whether 
he was aware that she has passed away.  Sadly she was killed in a car 
accident.  A scholarship is now awarded annually in her name.

I had Miss burke for Prob and stat senior year.  I think she graduated Asbury 
Park HS with my sister in 1966.  In between being Miss Burke and Mrs. worth 
she was Mrs Waldman, she married David Waldman founder and former owner of 
the Jersey Shore Fitness Shop in Bradley Beach.

Marvin wrote me and asked me about a number of deceased members of our class, 
too.  There were a few --Gordon Deane, Robert Schumacher and Billy 
Riccadella-- that were news to me.

I wish I had started this months sooner, but I didn't think I'd be going to 
the reunion and, frankly, I didn't think about it much.

If you have java installed in your browser (most do), you can use your browser 
to do irc.

Pick a nickname, click OK, and click the join button, type in #otclassof1973 
for a channel name and join the chat (if any is going on).  Or, if your 
geek-index is fairly high, you could fire up an irc client and connect to 
Server eris.njit.edu on port 6667.

What's irking me at the moment is that the applet seems to work better in 
Internet Explorer than Netscape/Mozilla, but sometimes Netscape has some 
rather odd quirks (Don't try this in lynx, Clark :-)

While you all were guzzling drinks at sue Henderson's house tonight (or home 
thinking about it) I was busy with my java compiler :-)
