My thanks to Mary for the web sites and Stephanie and Dennis for the
raves about the Red Bank Jazz & Blues Festival. All these site
connections weren't getting me anywhere - fast - so I finally just went
and Googled Red Bank Jazz and Blues Festival and got their site:
http://www.redbankfestival.com/
Very impressive, so many stages and performers. Our SF Blues Festival
only has one stage, but the SF Jazz Festival (of which I'm not
affiliated) is a month long affair spread out over several weekends,
combining elements of a street fair (think whole blocks of a street
cordoned off for booths selling art, clothing, food, even wine tasting
and more). The Red Bank J&B Fest sounds great and I really hope the
weather isn't putting a damper on things. Being so involved with our
Blues Festival really makes me aware of what a wild card the weather can
be. We have it in September, because it typically doesn't rain in SF
then - but with weather, nothing's ever "typical."
Apropos of nothing, it must have been in the late 70s that I first
discovered Frank Herbert's Dune series in a Red Bank book store ("a Red
Bank book store," why does that sounds like a song lyric?). Speaking of
music, I also recall a great music and instrument store a few blocks over
from that very same Red Bank book store. Dang, that's what happens when
we have so many different topics and internet sites whizzing around.
Speaking of jumping around, thanks to Dennis for talking about the
Baronet and Tim for the Baronet link. Dennis has mentioned the Baronet
before and I've been happy to hear of its renaissance. The picture on
the web site really looks like the exterior has undergone a welcome
transformation and I look forward to hearing many, many wonderful things
about what goes on there.
John Stockfisch was here a few weeks ago and we went to a nice Cajun
restaurant for a mini reunion. John comes to SF on business and now that
we've rubbed two of these visits together for a warm fuzzy, I feel we've
got a tradition going. David Taylor was here last year, too. Laura
Ruckles was out this way, but unfortunately I was out of town (Laura, I
guess we'll always have OTHS).
Hope everyone's well and to all a happy Fiddy-First!
Marvin

And the day came when the risk to remain
tight in a bud was more painful than
the risk it took to blossom.
