KEITH J. KARASIC, 50, of Kalaheo, Kauai in Hawaii, formerly of OCEAN TOWNSHIP

KEITH J. KARASIC, 50, of Kalaheo, Kauai in Hawaii, formerly of OCEAN 
TOWNSHIP, died Friday, April 21, at home, surrounded by immediate family members, 
after a two-year battle with cancer. He graduated from Ocean Township High School 
in 1973 and received his bachelor's degree in Fine Arts from Eckerd College, 
St. Petersburg, Fla. He moved to the island of Kauai in January 1979 to pursue 
his love of surfing. As a freelance photojournalist, he has had photos and 
articles appear in the publications Yachting, People, The New Yorker and Bride 
Magazine, as well as USA Today and The Garden Island newspapers. His pictures, 
which are featured on postcards, calendars, and brochures, reflect the beauty 
of his island home, which he loved. Keith's unique photos, featuring Kauai, 
have also been published in numerous photographic collections. A lifelong 
advocate of preserving the ecology, in 2003, he began another career . . . farming. 
He was predeceased by his father, Maurice "Chop" Karasic. Keith is survived 
by his mother, Esther Binder Karasic; his brother, Judge Ronald A. Karasic; and 
his sister-in-law, Dr. Donna Sue Karasic, all of Baltimore, Md. 
A private service, which was held on April 23 and included a "paddle-out" to 
his favorite surfing spot, was performed by his many surfer friends. A rainbow 
appeared when they formed a circle as part of the memorial tribute, and 
another rainbow appeared as they returned to shore following the ceremony.
