KEITH J. KARASIC, 50, of Kalaheo, Kauai in Hawaii, formerly of OCEAN
TOWNSHIP, died Friday, April 21, at home, surrounded by immediate family members,
after a two-year battle with cancer. He graduated from Ocean Township High School
in 1973 and received his bachelor's degree in Fine Arts from Eckerd College,
St. Petersburg, Fla. He moved to the island of Kauai in January 1979 to pursue
his love of surfing. As a freelance photojournalist, he has had photos and
articles appear in the publications Yachting, People, The New Yorker and Bride
Magazine, as well as USA Today and The Garden Island newspapers. His pictures,
which are featured on postcards, calendars, and brochures, reflect the beauty
of his island home, which he loved. Keith's unique photos, featuring Kauai,
have also been published in numerous photographic collections. A lifelong
advocate of preserving the ecology, in 2003, he began another career . . . farming.
He was predeceased by his father, Maurice "Chop" Karasic. Keith is survived
by his mother, Esther Binder Karasic; his brother, Judge Ronald A. Karasic; and
his sister-in-law, Dr. Donna Sue Karasic, all of Baltimore, Md.
A private service, which was held on April 23 and included a "paddle-out" to
his favorite surfing spot, was performed by his many surfer friends. A rainbow
appeared when they formed a circle as part of the memorial tribute, and
another rainbow appeared as they returned to shore following the ceremony.
